What is PBIS?

PBIS, or Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports, is a framework used in schools to encourage positive behavior and create a supportive school environment. It’s a proactive approach, focusing on teaching and reinforcing good behaviors rather than just disciplining bad behavior. PBIS aims to improve school safety and promote positive school culture by defining, teaching, and rewarding expected behaviors across all areas of school life

How does it work?

  1. Define Expectations: Establish a few core expectations, such as respect, responsibility, and safety, which are displayed throughout the school.

  2. Teach Expected Behaviors: Explain what these expectations look like in different settings, like the classroom, hallways, and cafeteria.

  3. Recognize Positive Behavior: Provide specific praise or rewards when students follow expectations, reinforcing the desired behavior.

  4. Data-Driven Decisions: Collect data on behavioral incidents to identify areas needing extra support or intervention.

  5. Interventions for Challenges: For students struggling to meet expectations, targeted support and interventions help them succeed.

Mercy Bucks

Mercy Bucks are our school's fun and positive reinforcement currency, rewarding students for good behavior and positive actions. Students can earn Mercy Bucks by following school rules, showing kindness, and making responsible choices. Once a month, students get the chance to spend their Mercy Bucks at the "Mercy Mall," where they can trade them for games, toys, and other exciting items.
